"Not Me!" - By Subhayan Samanta

Image
Once there was a cock, a dog, a goat and a cat. They lived in a farm house. The dog, goat, and the cat were very lazy and didn’t do any work. The three lazy friends always slept.   One day the cock found some wheat seeds on the ground. So he decided to plant the seeds. He asked his friends to help. He said “Who will help me to plant these seeds?” The three friends replied back to the cock saying “Not me” before going back to sleep. The cock had to plant the seeds on his own. After a week the seeds turn into a sapling.   It was time to water the plants more than he had done before. He again went to his friends for help, “Who will help me to water the plants?” The dog, cat, and goat replied angrily that they would not help him.   The cock was sad to hear that they would not help him water the plants. After 3 months, the crops were ready to be harvested. He again asked his friends to help him, this time with great hope as he thought that his friends would recognize what ...

A Visit to the Park - By Swapnil Bhattacharjee

Image
Once upon a time, I saw my neighbour going to a park in our locality. The name of the park is Nature Park. So I thought of asking my mother to take my friends and me to the park. We went to the park in the afternoon. As we entered the park, I saw greenery all around. There were paved roads and colourful flowers everywhere. There were small benches throughout the park for people to sit and take rest. Nick and Jessica climbed a small tree and sat on the branches to see the entire park from above. I saw an old lady reading a storybook to her granddaughter. I also wanted to listen to the story, so I stood behind the bench where they were sitting on and paid attention to what was being read. Sandy was enjoying riding her mini scooter while Ron, with his dog Mack was running behind the mini scooter. My friends and I enjoyed visiting the park that day. When I reached home, I thought as to when we will get a chance to visit that park again.

The Helpful Man - By Tarush Gupta

Image
Once upon time there was a kind man.  His parents always taught him to help everyone.  They said that if one wants to get blessings from God, that person must help others. Since childhood he used to help the needy.   Day by day his contribution for society increased specially in the field of education & health. No one left his house without any help. He had a cotton business.   His material used to go to far-off countries via ship. One day he got a big contract and he invested all his money in this but unfortunately his ship sank in the sea while his material was being transported.   He lost all his materials but somehow saved himself. After returning home, he thought of taking help from others in order to continue the business. He went to his colleagues and friends for help but everyone refused, instead they made excuses.   Finally he came back home, disappointed. At night he thought that he had made mistake in life and decided not to help anyo...

The Rainy Season - By Soumyadip Bose

Image
July and August witness the rainy season. During the rainy season, sometimes it rains for the whole day and other times, just for a little while. In this season, if it rains the whole day, then small children can sail paper boats. During this season, many floods occur in roads and streets. We always have to carry a raincoat or an umbrella when we go out. If we go out to play, we will fall sick, have high fever, coughing and sneezing. We also cannot play outdoor games during this rainy season.  Our clothes also get wet after washing as it doesn’t dry. My favourite seasons are summer and monsoon season.  During the rainy season, I can’t go out to play but I can play indoor games such as Ludo with my whole family.

A Visit to the Airport - By Budhil Basu

Image
This story took place in the month of May, 2019 in Kolkata. It was our summer vacation and like every year, our parents decided to take us to our grandparent’s house in New Delhi. My brother Siddharth and I were very excited because we had to board a plane.   Our flight was at 9:45 am. We rose early in the morning, freshened up and drank milk/tea with biscuits. We had a light luggage which we quickly packed into our car and set off for Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport in Dum Dum. My father told me that it is one of the oldest airport in India which has both domestic and international terminals. After reaching the airport, we had security checks, collected our boarding passes for Indigo Airlines and waited in the lounge. We enjoyed visiting the shops inside with a burger in our hands. Soon our boarding announcement was made and we took the boarding bus to the flight. As we entered the plane, the cabin crew greeted us with a ‘Namaste’ and a smile.   It ...

My Favourite Destination - By Kanineeka Chatterjee

My father transferred from Sri Lanka to Bangladesh. Now he stays in Bangladesh. Sometimes he comes to Kolkata and stays with us.  That is why during my summer  vacation , I go to Bangladesh with my mother.   I anxiously wait for the summer  vacation so that I can spend time with my father. I love going to Bangladesh because of the culture there.  Everyone is very friendly & they respect their own language.   An incident took place when I went to the airport and wished the immigration officer ‘Good Morning’.  She replied back to me by saying ‘Suprabath’. She then explained that she knows English but prefers using her mother tongue. Later when we went to the Shahid Minar, I heard the history of how thousands of students of various universities, colleges and schools had given their life for their language. Hence, 21 st  of February is treated as International Language Day.   In the weekend we went to Cox Bazaar and the ...

A Lifetime Experience - By Eashan Dutta

Image
A few years ago I went to Kenya with my family. There we went to many national parks & safaris and saw many animals. I was very excited about the whole experience but the place I was most excited to see was the ‘David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust’.   It is a rehabilitation program in Kenya dedicated to the rescue of orphan elephants. It was founded in 1977 by D.D Sheldrick.   We went there early the morning at around 6:00am. There were many people waiting to enter so we too stood in line with them. I was very eager to see the baby elephant. Finally the time had come when the baby elephants were brought in front of us. There were six baby elephants of ages 2 to 5 years. Their mother was killed in the forest by poachers at a different time and place. Thus, these elephants were brought there until they were old enough and could be sent to a conservation area. The caretakers fed them milk and gave them green leaves to eat. I saw them playing with each other.   I w...

A Visit to the Farm - By Aarush Karmakar

Once upon a time in Panvel, two children named Raj and Priya, during their summer vacation decided to visit an animal farm. They wanted to visit the farm as they had not seen one since childhood.   When they reached the farm, they were very excited and could not believe that they were finally in the place they wanted to visit since childhood. Both of them were brother and sister (twins) and studied in the VII standard .Whey they were small, their grandparents told them lots of stories about animal farms. The farm which they were visiting belonged to their grandparents. After the passing of their grandparents, there was no one to take care of the farm. Their parents had no time to visit or took care of the farm. It was their grandparent’s last wish to take great care of the farm as they loved the place and its location. From that day onwards, their parents promised to visit the farm at least once a month and see to its well-being.   When they reached the farm, they fo...

Villages v/s Big Cities - By Tanvi Agarwal

Image
Life in a small village may be different than living in a town or city. Villages are not as developed as cities but now our government has been making the villages better by providing gas to homes and houses to some people. More than five years ago, I visited a small village named Barsoi situated in Bihar. It took me about ten hours to reach Barsoi. On reaching there, the first thing I saw was the cow dung on the walls, many wells and hand pumps. After I reached my relative’s house I saw that the houses were not as developed as they are in the cities.   There were small buildings unlike the buildings in cities. But the greenery of that village left an impact on me. People living in cities do not take care of their surroundings in spite of having so much.   On the other hand, the villagers look after their village. I salute these villagers who take of their village. I would love to visit another village the next time I get a chance.

My Best Friend - By Koushiki Singh

Image
A best friend is a person with whom we can share our problems and feelings and one who becomes happy when we are happy and sad when we are sad.   It is not necessary that a best friend has to be a classmate or of the same age as us. A best friend can be anyone. For  example:  teachers, friends and family members     My best friend is my mother. My mother’s name is Nipa Singh. She is 38 years old. I  can  share  all my problems with my mother. She gets happy when I achieve my goals.   She is kind,  caring, loving and funny. My mother makes tasty dishes for me.   She helps me to  study. When  I am sad, she makes funny faces and does funny things to make me happy. When I  get hurt,  she leaves all her important work and rushes to me to heal the area wherein I hurt myself.   My mother loves me a lot. If I did not have her as my mother, I would not standing here  today.   I ...

A Visit to the Farm - Anusri Majumdar

Image
Two years ago, when I was in class two my father took my friend Aanya and I to visit an exciting place which was a surprise for our vacation. It was our summer holidays.   On one sunny morning of August, he suddenly asked me to get ready and call my best friend over. My mother had already left for work, so dad packed our breakfast and extra snacks for the day. I asked him where were we going but he said it was a surprise.   We took a bus and after about 20 minutes we arrived at a place which looked like a forest. We walked until we reached the gate.   I finally knew that the place was Hounslow Urban Farm. Father was smiling seeing the excitement in our faces. As we walked through the farm, we saw so many different animals kept so well in different places. The man who was giving us the tour let us touch the horse, rabbit, pigs and the chicks. We clicked pictures with the animals.   It was so much fun.   We were sad to leave the animals when it was time to ret...
